Do you know a high school junior who loves to make new friends and travel? If so, tell them about our Montgomery and Washington Youth Tours.
This once in a lifetime experience provides opportunities for students to learn about the history of Alabama and the United States. They also learn about the cooperative form of business and the legislative process, not to mention they make lifelong friends! The best thing of all is that all the trips are FREE!
In order to be eligible, students must be a junior in high school and be the dependent child of a Tallapoosa River Electric Cooperative member.
Students interested in participating should complete an application and submit it to TREC via mail or email. All applications will be reviewed for eligibility by an independent panel of judges. The panel of judges will determine from the applications which students will participate in the interview portion of the competition.
Students selected to be interviewed, will be notified during the week of January 23rd through 27th, 2017. Interviews will be conducted Friday February 3rd, 2017 at Tallapoosa River Headquarters in LaFayette.
The 2017 Montgomery Youth Tour will be held March 7th-9th, 2017. At this event, more than 155 students and chaperones will tour many sites around Montgomery and will participate in a variety of leadership programs.
The 2017 Washington Youth Tour is sponsored in conjunction with the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) and is held every June. This week long, annual event will bring more than 1,600 high school students from across the nation to Washington, DC to tour various sites and meet members of the legislature.
